Review: Star Trek Picard

The series begins in 2399, 20 years after Jean-Luc Picard’s last appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis(2002), and finds the character deeply affected by the death of Data in that film as well as the destruction of the planet Romulus in the film Star Trek (2009). Retired from Starfleet and living on his family’s vineyard, Picard is drawn into a new adventure when he is visited by a synthetic “daughter” of Data, one of several new synthetic beings or “synths”. Picard fights for their right to exist and gives his life to save them.

After Picard’s consciousness is transferred into a synthetic body, the second season moves forward to 2401. Picard and his companions are living new lives when his old adversary Q traps them in an alternate reality. They must travel back in time to the 21st century to save the future of the galaxy. In the third season, Picard learns that he has a son who is being hunted by mysterious enemies. He reunites with the former crew of the USS Enterprise to protect his son and face a new invasion by the Borg.

Review:

Given Captain Picard is my favorite captain from Star Trek Next Generation, I was very excited when this was announced. The Show Consist of 3 Seasons each has their own arc.

The first season of Picard was about Androids, the story of an android named Soji. Picard forms a team to try and save her after receiving a message from her. Along the way new information come to the surface about the Romulan and their involvement in wanting to ending all androids. That’s where are Star Trek heroes come in to save the day.

I really enjoyed the first Season of Picard, I thought it was brilliant, Soji and her sister were interesting characters. We got to see the Borg Cube up close. 7 of 9 briefly became the Borg Queen which was nice to see. It felt like predictions from Voyager were coming true. Also the thing I loved most about Picard is how it connected all shows together and at the same time if you haven’t watched any Star Trek you will still understand what’s happening. That was the highlight of the first season.

The second season, they were stranded in the past and got into a different reality because of Q. Seeing Q and Picard interactions was such a delight. It felt so nostalgic. I also loved the fact that there was a lot about the Borg in this season as well. We actually see the Borg Queen and get the biggest plot twists of all time. It was a very enjoyable season.

The Third season focused more about the next generation crew, which was nice to see. We really missed them. It was also nice to see Tuvok, I didn’t expect to see him in that season. I also liked the fact that Picard had a son now. Seeing playing a father roll was delightful. I was hoping for more out of that season, but I’m not sure what it was I was hoping for. I mean by the time the season ended, I was like “When is the next one?”. So I guess there were still some questions left unanswered. However, it felt like it concluded Star Trek Next Generation.

Overall Rate8/10
